Persian Sennah Rug (c. 1900) | Floral Motif | (52" by 81")
This is an exceptional example of a turn-of-the-century Senneh rug, known among collectors for having the finest, most precise weave of all Kurdish weavings.
The Details
* Dimensions: 4' 4" x 6' 9" (52" x 81")
* Origin: Sanandaj (formerly Senneh), Northwest Persia
* Circa: 1900
* Materials: Hand-spun wool on a fine cotton foundation
Artistry & Design
* Classic Herati Pattern: The field features a meticulous "Mahi" (fish) or Herati repeat. This rhythmic, all-over diamond lattice is prized for its "razor-clean" geometry, made possible by the incredibly tight, single-wefted Senneh weave.
* Deep Palette: A rich, midnight-indigo field provides a sophisticated backdrop for the intricate floral details, framed by a vibrant madder-red border.
* "Handkerchief" Handle: Characteristically thin and flexible, this rug offers a delicate, refined texture that sits low to the floor—perfect for layering or standing alone as a statement piece.
Condition Report
* Character & Wear: This antique piece shows beautiful, even aging consistent with its 120-year history.
* Corner Detail: There is slight wear/damage to one corner. While this reflects its genuine antique status, the structural integrity remains sound, and the minor fraying does not detract from the visual impact of the central field.
* Recommendation: This rug is ideal for a study, library, or an elegant entryway where its fine detail can be appreciated up close.

*Why Buy This Piece?
Investment Grade: Pieces from circa 1900 are from the "Golden Age" of Senneh production, just before commercial interests began to simplify the designs.
The "Perfect" Dimensions: At 52" x 81", this is a rare "Zaronim" (approx. 4.5' x 6.5') size. It’s large enough to anchor a room but small enough to be used as a wall hanging—which many collectors do to preserve the fine weave.
Honest Aging: The slight corner damage is a "beauty mark" of a 125-year-old life. In the antique world, a rug that looks brand new is suspicious; this piece has the authentic patina and "glow" that only a century of natural oxidation can produce.
