Vintage Kordi Bijar Kurdish Rug (circa mid-century)

$1,599.99

Description:

This spirited Kordi-Bijar rug was hand-woven in northwestern Iran during the mid-20th century (c. 1930s–1960s). Unlike the rigid formality of city Bijars, this village piece features the improvisation and bold color palette characteristic of Kurdish weaving. Known as the "Iron Rug of Persia," Bijars are legendary for their density and durability. This Kordi variant marries that legendary toughness with a tribal aesthetic that collectors prize for its character. It is thick, soft, and substantial—perfect for a high-traffic area or a room featuring warm woodwork.

Key Details:

  • Origin: Kurdish weavers (Bijar vicinity, NW Iran)

  • Dimensions: 10' 2" x 5' 4" (309 cm x 163 cm)

  • Materials: Hand-knotted wool pile on a heavy cotton foundation

  • Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The pile is full and thick with no holes, shortened ends, dye bleed, or moth damage.
